Positive Behavioral Change Promotion That’s Easy to Use & ADA Compliant.
Vermont Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (VTPBIS) is a state-wide effort designed to help school teams form a proactive, school-wide, systems of approach for improving social and academic competence for students. Schools that employ the system of positive behavioral supports see a dramatic decrease in the number of behavior problems, and students in these schools enjoy greater levels of support and inclusion than those in comparative schools.

Design Challenge
The main purpose of the website was to house information about the VTPBIS initiative, share related documentation, and generate registration for training events. The target audience for the website includes educators, policy makers, and administrative staff at schools.
While the new website needed to include event registration and a content management component, the website itself needed to meet or exceed ADA compliance for grant and inclusivity purposes. Vermont PBIS had an established color palette from a recent branding exercise, and a wealth of content from their existing website. The copy would need to be reorganized, entered manually, and the website would be updated regularly to include additional page content and downloadable documentation.
How We Delivered
The website was built on WordPress and employed a suite of trusted open source plugins to facilitate additional functionality, including event calendars and contact forms.
While there’s nothing to be afraid of, Website Accessibility can be tricky to implement especially when a project calls for complex functionality, rich content, and future client updates. At the time of launch, the website reached ADA Compliance level AA, as outlined in the Web Content Accessibility (WCAG) 2.0 guidelines, and the client received both documentation and training on how to maintain this level of compliance.
To evoke a smart scholastic aesthetic we applied the clients existing color palette to common UI elements reach a more universal design. Being very copy heavy, elements within content were given aesthetically pleasing designs to make pages easier to consume.
